Synopsis

This title features posters, lobby cards and other promotional material for Hitchcock films from all over the world. At least one item is featured for each of the 39 movies he directed from 1933 onwards.

Book Description

In a career which spanned fifty years, Alfred Hitchcock attained a fame unrivaled by any other director. Movie-goers flocked to see his films simply because he had directed them; and any list of the greatest films of all time will always feature titles like Psycho, Dial M for Murder, The Lady Vanishes, Vertigo and North by Northwest. The centenary of Hitchcock's birth on 13 August 1999 will be the occasion for major celebrations, and re-appraisals of his work throughout the world.

This book features posters, lobby cards and other promotional material for Hitchcock films from all over the world. The material, includes items such as an American poster for Woman to Woman, the 1923 film for which Hitchcock wrote the screenplay and served as assistant director and art director; and lobby cards for Blackmail, the first British talkie. At least one item is featured for each of the thirty-nine movies he directed from 1933 onwards. The posters come not just from Britain and America, but from many other countries (Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain) and throw fascinating light on changing fashions and differing national styles in advertising and graphic design.
