Suspense (radio series)

Suspense was a long running radio drama series, which broadcast from 1942 to 1962. The audition episode was broadcast as part of the CBS Radio summer series Forecast.

The initial show was an adaptation of Marie Belloc Lowndes' "The Lodger" and included an actor voicing Hitchcock. Despite claims Hitchcock directed the episode, the evidence is that he simply lent his name for publicity purposes, although the initial intention was for Suspense to be a series of radio adaptations of Hitchcock films with the director as the host.[1]

Patricia Hitchcock was a cast member in several episodes, including an adaptation of Wilkie Collins' novel "The Moonstone" broadcast on 16th November 1953.[2]

Hitchcock himself was a fan of the series and apparently became aware of writer John Michael Hayes after hearing his story "Death on My Hands", which was broadcast in May 1951.
