Names & Faces

Alfred Hitchcock sat behind his Hollywood desk, which bristled with microphones, as British Consul-General Thomas Aston presented him with the notification of Hitchcock's new knighthood. Reporters asked why it took Queen Elizabeth II so long to knight Hitchcock, who is 80. He said, deadpan: "I suppose it was a matter of carelessness." Will the knighthood change his relationship with his wife? "I hope so," he cracked. What does a knight do? Hitchcock said: "The first obvious thing he does, is go out into the night."
